MKVtools 2

The original version of MKVtools (MKVtools 2) is being phased out to be replaced by three specialized applications - AVItools, MP4tools and a reworked version of MKVtools. There will be minimal continued development of this version of MKVtools. If you're looking for bug fixes, updates can be found here but as mentioned above, updates will be limited.

AVItools 3 (now available)

This is first offshoot of the current version of MKVtools. It's focus is the creation and editing of AVI videos. It will primarily be useful for those preparing/eidting videos to be viewed on DivX certified DVD players, though AVI videos are also viewable on the PS3 and Xbox 360, so these users might also find AVItools handy.

MP4tools 3 (now available)

This is a second offshoot of the current version of MKVtools. It's focus is the creation and editing of MP4 videos. It will primarily be useful for those preparing/eidting videos to be viewed on Apple products like the iPhone, iPand and Apple TV, though these files are also viewable on other hardware like the PS3 and Xbox 360. Most current MKVtools users will probably want to use this application.

MKVtools 3 (coming soon)

This is an another offshoot of the current version of MKVtools. It's focus is the creation and editing of MKV videos, which is somthing the current version of MKVtools does not do well.
